Brooke Henderson sits T41 to lead Canadian contingent at London Hunt and Country Club
11 third round birdies on the par-3 17th hole bumps three-day total to 57 and raises $285,000 for Children’s Health Foundation through CP Birdies for Heart

London, Ont. (Golf Canada) – So Yeon Ryu not only has the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open’s scoring record of 18-under in sight, she’s got the LPGA Tour career 72-hole scoring record of 27-under – held by Annika Sorenstam, Hee Young Park and Angela Stanford – shaking at this point after a 5-under 67 Saturday has her at 20-under-par 196 through 54 holes at the London Hunt and Country Club in London, Ont.
Ryu’s owned the 54-hole lead three times before. Twice it resulted in a win at both the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open and 2012 Jamie Farr Toledo Classic. But she’s never led by this much at this point, owning a four-shot lead over close friend Na Yeon Choi and Azahara Munoz, who sit at 16-under-par 200.
“I think my lowest record was 29-under when I was 16 at the Asian Games so if I have a chance, I want to break my current record. Also if I can, I want to break another LPGA Tour record,” said Ryu, when discussing the possibility of setting the 72-hole scoring record. “Amazing that these girls played so well. Also, if I am going to win this tournament, it is going to be even more of an honour.”
Munoz made an exciting charge up the leader board on moving day, firing a 9-under 63 to vault into contention. Her 63 ties the London Hunt course record set by Ryu during Thursday’s opening round and gives her plenty of confidence heading into Sunday.
“I had so many chances and then I made a lot of putts,” said Munoz about her course-record tying round. “Obviously I knew with a 9-under, I was going to be pretty up there (on the leaderboard). I’m going to focus on myself and see where that takes me.”
Inbee Park sits alone in fourth at 14-under 202 while Anna Nordqvist rounds out the 54-hole top five at 13-under 203.
Canadian amateur sensation and Team Canada member Brooke Henderson of of Smiths Falls, Ont. sits as the top Canuck through 54 holes as her round of 1-under 71 puts her T41 at 4-under 212 for the championship. Henderson’s National Team teammate Jennifer Ha of Calgary shot a round of 1-over 73 to sit T60 at 2-under 214. The duo will battle for the Marlene Streit Low Amateur Award on Sunday.
Team Canada Young Pro Squad members Jennifer Kirby of Brantford, Ont. (1-under 215) and Sue Kim of Langley, B.C. (1-over 217) sit T66 and T80 respectively heading into final round action. The LPGA Tour rookies are both challenging for the Sandra Post Low Canadian Award as well.

CP BIRDIES FOR HEART – 57 BIRDIES AND $285,000 RAISED THROUGH 54 HOLES:
Title sponsor CP has stepped up to encourage players to make birdies on the 17th hole during tournament play by offering to donate $5,000 for each birdie made to the Children’s Health Foundation in support of paediatric heart health programs.
On Saturday, 11 more birdies by LPGA Tour players raised the total birdie count to 57 through three rounds, good for $285,000 thus far for charity. CP Birdies for Heart is one of the fundraising activities taking place at CPKC Women’s Open, with all proceeds going to Children’s Health Foundation to support cardiac research and care of children with congenital heart disease from London and across Southwestern Ontario.
Following the conclusion of play on Sunday, Canadian Pacific will announce a total roll-up charity donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in the name of the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open.
